YEAR UP GREATER PHILADELPHIA

YEAR UP'S MISSION IS TO CLOSE THE OPPORTUNITY DIVIDE BY ENSURING  THAT YOUNG ADULTS GAIN SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, AND SUPPORT THAT WILL EMPOWER THEM TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL THROUGH CAREERS AND HIGHER EDUCATION. FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, FINANCE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, YOU'LL SPEND 6 MONTHS IN THE CLASSROOM LEARNING THE SKILLS EMPLOYERS ARE LOOKING FOR THEN SPEND 6 MONTHS INTERNING WITH A PARTNER COMPANY, APPLYING THE SKILLS AND GAINING WORK EXPERIENCE. *NOTE: DURING THE FIRST 6 MONTHS PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A STIPEND OF $50/WEEK; THE SECOND 6 MONTHS $150/WEEK*

AT PHILADELPHIA JOB CORPS LIFE SCIENCE INSTITUTE, WE SUPPORT THE JOB CORPS PROGRAM'S MISSION TO TEACH ELIGIBLE YOUNG PEOPLE THE SKILL THEY NEED TO BECOME EMPLOYABLE AND INDEPENDENT AND PLACE THEM IN MEANINGFUL JOBS OR FURTHER EDUCATION.

PROGRAMS OFFERED:

               FACILITIES MAINTENANCE: FACILITIES MAINTENANCE WORKERS PERFORM ROUTINE REPAIRS AND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE TO ENSURE BUILDING SYSTEMS OPERATE EFFICIENTLY.

              CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT: HOME HEALTH AIDES ARE NON-LICENSED MEMBERS OF THE HOME CARE TEAM THAT ASSIST PATIENTS WHO WISH TO RECEIVE CARE IN THE COMFORT OF THEIR OWN HOME WITH DAILY LIVING.

 

              CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT: MEDICAL ASSISTANTS PERFORM A VARIETY OF DUTIES TO ASSIST HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS INCLUDING SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS, TAKING VITAL SIGNS, SUCCINCTLY CONVEYING IDEAS AND INFORMATION TO PATIENTS. PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THIS FIELD SHOULD BE GOOD LISTENERS, BE ABLE TO HANDLE STRESS, AND EXCEL AT THINKING CLEARLY ON THE FLY.

             EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN: RESPOND TO EMERGENCY CALLS, PROVIDE EFFICIENT AND IMMEDIATE CARE TO THOSE IN CRITICAL CONDITION, AND SAFELY AND QUICKLY TRANSPORT PATIENTS TO MEDICAL FACILITIES.

             PHARMACY TECHNICIAN: UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A PHARMACIST, A PHARMACY TECHNICIAN WILL MEASURE, MIX, COUNT OUT, LABEL, AND PREPARE MEDICATIONS. THEY ALSO OFTEN INTERACT WITH PATIENTS AND ANSWER THEIR QUESTIONS.

            CULINARY ARTS: A CULINARY ARTISTS WEARS MANY HATS INCLUDING CHEF AND COOK. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT ONLY MAKING THE FOOD TASTE GREAT BUT MAKING IT LOOK FABULOUS AS WELL.
